About the exhibition

Presenting the photographs of Jadwiga Nowak-Jeziorańska

The photographs were taken by Jadwiga Nowak-Jeziorańska over a period of more than twenty years and on four continents. Greta was not a professional photographer, her main occupation after the war was to support the professional activity of her husband, Jan Nowak-Jeziorański, and run the house. This is what the title of the exhibition refers to (“Extracurricular activities”), namely occupations she took up only for herself, in addition to her chores, because she herself considered them to be her “extra jobs”.

Jadwiga took her first photos during her stay in London in the 1950s, where she was a member of the Polish Photographic Society at the YMCA. Other photos were taken mainly during holiday trips around Europe, Asia, Africa and America. Although her photos were presented on several exhibitions of the Polish community abroad, she never had the opportunity to show her work on her very own exhibition.

The exhibition features a selection of photographs from the collection of over seven thousand slides deposited at the Ossoliński National Institute. Selected photographs allow viewers to look at the world through Greta’s eyes.
